Known peoples

Species

A public codex of the peoples known to the crew: their histories, appearances, homeworlds, reputations, and place among the settled stars.

Confirmed

Known Peoples

Only peoples that are established in the campaign record belong here. Other possible species remain outside the public codex until the table defines or encounters them.

Rare

Humans

Humans are a young and uncommon people among the settled stars. In many ports, meeting a human is notable rather than ordinary, but humanity itself is not obscure: at some point, humans entered Accompanied Space, made contact with other peoples, and became part of its living politics.

Their influence exceeds their population. The Stellar Dawn, a vast human-linked station and habitat, gives humanity a visible place in Accompanied Space despite the species' small numbers.

What is widely agreed is simple: humans survived near-extinction, adapted quickly, and earned a reputation for stubborn resourcefulness.

Illustrated Octagenerian head token Aquatic

Octagenerians

Octagenerians are aquatic, cephalopod-headed humanoids known for contract culture, careful resource stewardship, and a reputation economy older than many human institutions.

Outsiders often reduce them to merchants or brokers, but Octagenerian society treats exchange as civic structure: a good contract prevents violence, preserves memory, and clarifies duty across generations.

Their populations include multiple subspecies and clades shaped by ancestral ocean habitats, migration, station life, and long trade histories.

Humanity

A Small People In A Large Sky

Humanity's rarity is demographic, political, and historical. Their influence may exceed their numbers in some places, but they are not one of the galaxy's default peoples.

Origins

Broken Continuity

Human records do not agree on what happened before spaceflight. Calendars, founding myths, and institutional archives preserve incompatible versions of Earth and the Quiet Year.

Presence

The Stellar Dawn

Human presence in Accompanied Space is anchored by the Stellar Dawn: part station, part habitat, part political fact. For many outsiders, it is the place where humanity stopped being a refugee population and became a participant.

Reputation

Robust Survivors

Other species may view humans as scarce, intense, adaptable, politically inconvenient, or unusually hard to finish off. Their reputation is not ancient mystery; it is the result of contact, endurance, and visible survival.

Octagenerians

Clades

Octagenerian clades began as environmental adaptations across their ancestral seas. In modern space, ancestry mixes with language, profession, port culture, and family-firm identity.

Pelagic

Open-Current Lineages

Long-tendril Octagenerians descended from open-ocean nomads, migratory flotillas, and deep-current trade routes. They are often exceptional swimmers and current-readers.

Littoral

Reef And Harbor Peoples

Shorter-tendril Octagenerians from reefs, coasts, kelp-fortresses, and crowded harbor cities. Compact features suited dense terrain, craft work, and tool-heavy lives.

Abyssal

Deepwater Houses

Bulb-headed, wide-eyed Octagenerians from pressure cities, trenches, vents, and blackwater habitats. Many traditions prize silence, patience, and deliberation before agreement.

Reefmarked

Patterned Kin

Mottled or banded Octagenerians whose skin patterning began as camouflage and social signaling among coral basins and biodiverse shallows.

Palewater

Lowlight Descendants

Pale, translucent, or softly bioluminescent Octagenerians from glacial under-oceans, enclosed moons, and old aquatic stations where sunlight was rare.

Brineborn

Port And Fleet Clades

Mixed-clade Octagenerians from trade fleets, orbital tanks, and station districts. Their identity is often shaped as much by migration and contract law as by ancestry.
